The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured victories in three out of four assembly by-elections in Punjab, strengthening its hold in the state. The Congress managed to win one seat, while the BJP failed to secure any.

The bypolls were necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year.

AAP is leading in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha while Congress is leading only on one seat in Barnala. The BJP is at third position in all four seats. Notably, Congress won in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha in the 2022 Punjab elections and AAP won in Barnala.

Gidderbaha, which five-time Punjab chief minister late Parkash Singh Badal represented for a record five terms from 1969-1985 and later went to his nephew Manpreet Singh Badal from 1995-2007, is considered an Akali bastion.
