The Metropolitan Police has issued another warning about showing support for proscribed terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah.

Protesters and counter-protesters hurled abuse at each other - and there was a brief struggle with police when a small group holding a banner ran into the road.

Bemused Christmas shoppers took photos as the streets around Piccadilly Circus in central London were flooded with pro-Palestine demonstrators. Counter-protesters from Stop the Hate gathered on Coventry Street near Piccadilly Circus, on the route of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) march, to urge the marchers to “stop supporting terror”.

Cambridge SU already opposes Prevent, according to a policy titled “students not suspects”. This resolution claims that the scheme “has been used to create an expansive surveillance architecture to spy on the public and to police dissent”.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign said the event was the 22nd march since the Israel-Gaza conflict began in October 2023.
