Hemant Soren's JMM-led alliance won the Jharkhand polls on Saturday, securing 56 seats in the 81-member assembly to retain power for 2nd consecutive term.

In a show of strength, leaders of the INDIA alliance, comprising the JMM, the Congress, the RJD and the Left, reached the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi where the incumbent chief minister, Soren, tendered his resignation to assume the office once again.

Hemant Soren is scheduled to meet Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar at 4 pm today, November 24, to formally stake his claim to form the government.

JMM’s voter share was lesser than BJP’s. While the Hemant Soren-led party managed to get 23.44 per cent of the total votes polled, the saffron party bagged a considerably higher 33.18 per cent share

JMM chief Hemant Soren resigned from the current government on Sunday to stake claim for forming the next one. After meeting with the governor, Soren announced that the swearing-in ceremony for the chief minister and other ministers is scheduled for November 28.
