Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu was knocked out after losing to Canada's Michelle Li in the pre-quarter-finals of the Kumamoto Masters Japan Super 500 tournament on Thursday.

World No. 20 Sindhu was the lone Indian in contention after the exits of Lakshya Sen and the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand.

Sindhu, currently ranked world no. 20, was defeated by her Canadian opponent 21-17, 16-21, 17-21 in a match that lasted one hour and 15 minutes
